Easy? All these words in one sentence? In most cases, studying means something unpleasant. From a young age, people get the impression that studying is a tough, unpleasant and sometimes painful process. Believe it or not, none of this is true. It is difficult, but not painful, neither impossible. Most of the time, it’s easier than you think. What is the main idea of studying? After finishing school, we get home, waiting for someone to save us. Nothing happens, and in the end, we sit down to study. And then what? We stay there for a couple of hours doing nothing. After that, we go to eat some junk food, followed by Netflix. Cool. And all of this repeatedly wastes our life. Is it possible for studying to be easy? Well, It’s not a joke, but you can ease yourself. After reading that, you will realize four things: · The main mistake · Mindset · Proper studying · Myths about studying The main mistakeLet’s break down the studying process. There are six steps. We go to school. It’s tedious and exhausting listening to the nonsense we have to stand every day. We stay there waiting for the clock to show the time we are going to be free. After that, we get home, eat and rest, doing some time-wasting stuff. After that, we realize we have an upcoming exam for tomorrow. After cursing for around fifteen minutes, we sit at our desk with all the books in front of us. Here it comes, the moment we start studying. Read, write, reread, rewrite. Repeatedly. Oh! It’s 1:00 am. We are tired and sleepy. We close the book, feeling happy after the hard work. Sleep. Bad luck because we got an F on the exam. But how? How did that happen? We’ve failed the exam although we have studied so hard. That’s unfair for sure. No one deserves failure after hours of hard work, does he? After that, we accuse anyone, teachers, the system, our friend or family, etc. Debacle hurts a lot. And again, we finish nowhere. The same repeatedly becomes part of our lives. And then what? Did you find where was the problem this whole time? No? The problem is always in the beginning, and this situation is not an exception. Believe it or not, that’s how things are. A big part of your success sits on the time you spend at school. Why do you have to waste it? Use it wisely. Keep in mind that you have to spend a couple of hours at school whether you like it. It depends on you how you are going to use it. Remember the phrase “Time slows down when you wait for it.”? You are making it harder on your own. Time will pass faster if you do something meanwhile. Why not use this time to your advantage? Schools use a different type of teaching system than universities. Teachers are giving you all the information you need. They tell you how to do everything, while the only thing you do is to listen to them. And this is the key for most of us. Most students spend their time on their phones or chatting with others. In the meantime, they miss the information provided by their teacher and end up failing. Learning all the material in a couple of hours is not a solution. It’s exhausting and nonproductive. You won’t get any results. Also, this might affect your health, causing harm to your body and mental health. Don’t spend your school time like this. Stop wasting it so you can have some fun later. Proper studyingThere are plenty of studying strategies out there. Some of them concentrate on your memory like listening, reading, writing, and speaking, unlike others who use revision techniques. The leading factor here is finding what works for you. It’s beneficial to use interval studying. Have breaks instead of sitting for seven hours straight. It has more benefits. An example is, using 40 minutes of studying followed by a 15-minute break. Repeat. In that way, you force your mind to concentrate while studying. Without a deadline (a certain amount of time working), your brain is relaxed, thinking you have endless time. Next is that you should avoid any distractions like family, phone, etc. Get hydrated, get enough sleep and keep your room fresh. All these factors help to increase your productivity. If you use notes, write them down and don’t use digital ones. Half of the benefits of using notes are because you write them down. Try forcing yourself to use all your memorizing skills by listening, reading, writing, and speaking. (I’ll write about productive studying). The key is to listen in class and use what you write there as a revision source. When I was younger, I used this technique. Sometimes I didn’t need to write my homework at all. Don’t be like me. Do your homework, please. Take it easy and use your time wisely. Don’t rush everything on the day before the exam. Give yourself the time needed. Spend a couple of hours every day, if you can. Otherwise, try setting a day from the week only for studying. It might be even half a day if you are serious about it. As I have already said, find what works for you. For me, reading is hell, so I try concentrating on what the teacher says and write down everything I find being important. Don’t rush things. Don’t kill your brain and take care of your health. “Discipline will get you further than motivation ever will.” MindsetMindset is probably 70% of the work. Scientists believe that mindset can change everything, starting from people’s behaviour getting to historical events. You can’t do something that you think is unachievable. Things don’t work like that. First thing first. Believe it to achieve it. No matter how you call it motivation or inspiration, it’s a type of belief. You can do almost everything if you demand it. Work, fight, believe in your dreams. That’s how you are going to do it. Stalin and Hitler were so successful because of their mindset. They have done nothing caused by madness. They have done lots of things because of the way they thought. They had believed that this was the right thing. Nothing more than a belief. The same thing applies when talking about weight loss, studying, working, etc. As you can see now, mindset is everything. Myths about studyingLong hours mean success, but unfortunately, it’s the opposite. You already know how unhealthy it is to study for too long. Interval learning is the most beneficial. Even though people still believe that working day and night is the way to do it. Study smart, not hard.Children can only learn languages fast. It is not true at all, although children deal with it creatively. How? They apply everything they study to their everyday life like watching cartoons, playing games, etc. Adults can do these things. Music helps to study. I love music as well, but I have to say that music is a distracter here. There are some exceptions, including classical music. I would recommend avoiding any distractions. Try studying without music, TV, or anything close to these. The more people, the best. Again, this is a big No. People, especially children, and young adults, get distracted pretty easily. Of course, if you desperately need someone to be with you, you can make an exception. It’s admissible to study with a friend or two, but not more. Colours, notes, and beauty. Excuse me, but studying is not making everything beautiful. Stop wasting your time making beautiful notes, experimenting with colours, etc. People, who do that, forget to study at all. Just do it. Inspiration is the key. There is not such a thing. If you believe in what you are doing, inspiration comes. Discipline makes you study. If you want something, work for it. *If you liked it, you might consider supporting me on Medium* via OverTyme Simms Entertainment https://www.overtymesimmsent.com/post/study-smart-not-hard-get-higher-results Do you often find yourself wishing you had more courage? Are you currently facing hard times? The truth is that courage comes from within and you just need to find it. And there are a number of ways you can do so. Learn To Manage Your Fear The first step in finding your inner courage is to find a way to manage your current fears. And this can be accomplished by simply naming them, and then discussing with yourself why you are afraid of something. For example, if you are afraid to do or say something at your job because you may lose your job, chances are what you are really afraid of is losing your income. Now that you’ve discovered the true cause of your fear, it can be easier to realize the thing you were afraid of isn’t so bad after all and work towards solving the real fear instead. Decide That You Want To Be Courageous The mind is a powerful tool. If you decide that you are afraid, then you will be. This is why you should decide that you will be courageous. One of the ways you can do this is by giving yourself a pep talk, or developing a mantra that you can repeat to yourself when you find your confidence faltering. Don’t Make Everything A Catastrophe When you experience fear, much of it can be attributed to the fact that you catastrophizing what could possibly happen and not keeping yourself grounded. In the above example, the fear of losing your job, you are probably thinking that you will run out of money and end up on the street—and this is catastrophizing. Instead, reel it back. If you lose your job, tell yourself that you will find another, better, job without a problem. See the difference? Develop Healthy Daily Rituals Another part of being courageous is developing healthy daily rituals to keep your confidence up and stress levels down. You can do this by waking each morning to positive, upbeat music which tells you what a great person you are. You can also consume other positive media such as inspiring books and movies. Then develop a workout or meditation routine to help clear your mind and focus on what a great person you are. It is also advised that you consider keeping a journal where you can record positive affirmations and all your progress towards finding your courage. Think Of Your Future Self When you are faced with danger, you will often times develop tunnel vision, only being able to see the here and now and all the bad things which may be happening. Put a stop to this by looking forward at your future self instead of focusing only on the present. Remind yourself that this situation won’t last, and that you are better than this. Draft some goals and visualize yourself achieving them. Then, no matter what you are facing, start to work towards these dreams. Chances are you’ll find a creative solution to the problem you are currently facing and it will be over before you know it. Conclusion Overall, finding courage in difficult times is no easy task. But your courage resides within you, and you just need to find it. If you work first to quell your fears, then tell yourself that you have the courage, you will be surprised by how much better you can feel. Then work to bring out your courage by developing healthy rituals and thinking of the future. Before you know it, the hard times will be behind you and you will be feeling more courageous than ever before. via OverTyme Simms Entertainment https://www.overtymesimmsent.com/post/find-courage-from-within-during-hard-times When you are faced with difficult times, you may find yourself simply overwhelmed by the amount of stress you are facing. And part of dealing with tough times is learning to manage this stress. Below are some helpful tips to help you deal with stress management when you are dealing with a crisis.
If there are certain things which always stress you out in your life, for example a certain family member, or a certain project at your work, it’s time to take a break from them. Especially if you are dealing with a much bigger crisis. Even just a day off can do wonders in helping relieve your stress.
No matter what you are facing, you aren’t alone, and don’t forget that. Sometimes you may feel stressed out in a situation because you feel alone. But talk to your friends and family. They may be able to help with some things and relieve a bit of the stress that is currently weighing heavily on you. Either way, you never know until you ask, so don’t be afraid to tell others about what you are experiencing.
Now is not the time to volunteer to do the neighbor a favor or pick up a new hobby. In fact, it’s time to get rid of any stresses which aren’t worth your time. This could be as simple as telling your boss that you can’t stay late for a week, or maybe canceling on a plan with a friend which was causing you stress. Either way, if they really care about you, they will understand and not take it personally.
Meditation has amazing powers when it comes to stress relief, and if you haven’t given it a try yet, you most definitely should. Try your best to meditate each day for 5-10 minutes, even if this is just you sitting quietly by yourself and breathing deeply. You’ll be surprised at what the power of meditation can do for you.
When your stressed, you’ll probably be tempted to cancel on your gym class and eat a bunch of junk food. But as tempting as this sounds, when you are stressed it is actually better to work to keep your body in shape. This is because stress can be physically damaging to the body and diet and exercise work to help combat the physical damages caused by stress. So even though you may not be feeling great, try to work out for thirty minutes a day and eat a balanced diet—chances are you’ll feel much better in the long run.
If you have a project weighing over your head, it can be tempting to stay up all night and work on said project. But missing out on sleep can add to your stress big time. And when you’re tired, you’re less likely to be able to think clearly when facing problems. Instead, try to get 7-8 hours of sleep each night, and so you can approach your challenges with a clear head in the morning. Sometimes, when you are facing a crisis, stress management can take a back burner. But this is the wrong way to handle a challenge, as stress can made a bad situation feel worse. Work instead to relieve your stress by focusing on your health, consulting friends, and taking breaks. You’ll be surprised by how much easier it is to face tough times once you have a clear, stress free outlook on life. via OverTyme Simms Entertainment https://www.overtymesimmsent.com/post/6-tips-for-stress-management-during-tough-times Big Homey stopped by 88.1 FM for 4 years this week and had a great conversation with them.
